Two years Animal Crossing New Horizons: What future for this iconic game?

Today March 20, 2022, Animal Crossing New Horizons celebrates its second year of existence. Super cute inhabitants, a very zen life on a paradise island, terraforming quality, regular updates… Back to the biggest card of the Nintendo Switch.

Two years later, the hallucinating results of Animal Crossing

It obviously wasn’t premeditated but Animal Crossing New Horizons came out during a time that was absolutely conducive to that virtual island life that everyone needed. The Covid-19 epidemic in full rise, almost all the countries of the whole world had to quarantine in March 2020 and this is where ACNH came to give a little balm to the hearts of millions of players. Virtual reunions with friends, marriage proposals and sometimes even online museum visits, users have all been more creative than each other.

Because of the global pandemic, it has been difficult for museums and other cultural places to open their doors since 2020… But fortunately, the teraforming and dreamlike codes of Animal Crossing New Horizons have allowed the Thyssen museum to achieve an island in his image.

In just one year, ACNH sold more than 31 million copies worldwide. and, even after the end of the confinements, the title continued its exploits by becoming the best-selling game of all time in Japan, then surpassing Mario Kart. In just 10 days, when it was released, ACNH broke all the records of previous opuses by already selling 13 million copies. In short, colossal figures which can also be explained by the undeniable quality of New Horizons and the expectation of fans since New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS.

Especially since, even if it was not complete at the start, New Horizons has regularly updated to always offer more content to its players : scuba diving, works by Rounard, Robusto coffee or even growing vegetables! The biggest asset of the game will probably remain its undeniable relaxing side but also its online features for up to 8 players on the same island.

Can we expect anything new in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

Unfortunately not, or in any case very little. You probably already know this but the big November 2021 2.0 Update has officially been described as the last free content update of the game. Similarly, the Happy Home Paradise DLC was ACNH’s first and last paid expansion. So don’t expect additional major content at all like Celeste’s observatory for example, the work at Robusto’s CafĂ© or a Carla’s store.

Even if fans are still hoping for surprises for 2022, it is very unlikely that Nintendo is preparing anything for Animal Crossing. The game having already sold very well, it would be useless, financially, to devote more time to it when the current development team must absolutely finish Splatoon 3.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

However, this does not mean that it is the end of small updates! Animal Crossing New Horizons always receives small bug fixes and sometimes adds new seasonal items. The game’s dataminers recently spotted lines of code indicating that the Nook Shop could get a second floor, but that sounds a bit too good to be true. On the other hand, the addition of Zelda furniture, for example, can be considered a minor update. In the meantime, for its second candle, Nintendo has obviously not planned to send a small gift to players’ mailboxes, unlike last year when we received a cake.

And you, how long have you spent on ACNH? Do you still play it today?

You can now find ACNH villagers as icons and have the cutest profile picture. In this article, we tell you all about this new feature of Nintendo Switch Online.

The “yogurt” language of Animal Crossing has been a real subject of theories and debates of all kinds for many years. However, some content creators from various backgrounds seem to come to the same conclusions, suggesting that the mystery is finally lifted on the Animalese!
