Discover Netatmo’s connected rain gauge and anemometer
As you know, at Vonguru, we love everything related to the connected home. Assistant, breathing machine, security, and so on, we love to test all these new products and give you our feelings. Today, we decided to test two products: the anemometer, to measure the wind, and the rain gauge, for the rain, both signed Netatmo.
These two tests in one will thus complete our previous test, namely that of the brand’s connected and intelligent station. As a reminder, the pack consisting of an indoor station and an outdoor station is sold on the brand’s website at the price of 169,99 €. Also note that it is currently on sale on Amazon at the price of 112,99 €.
Time for the test!
Let’s start with the rain gauge. Here we will find a visual of the product on the front side as well as its main characteristics, both in English and in French. We will learn that it measures rainfall, sends you real-time notifications, is wireless and battery-powered. You will of course be reminded that you must first have the smart weather station. On the left, in 6 different languages, we will have the technical characteristics, which we will come back to a little later.
On the right is the application that is highlighted, and where you will be reminded once again that it is compatible only with the brand’s smart weather station, and no others. At the back to finish, we will have a new visual of the rain gauge on its support (not included, I will come back to this) as well as a reminder of the functionalities, namely measuring the rain while having access to the data history.
For the anemometer now, we have the right to a very similar box concerning its design. Here we will find a visual of the product on the front side as well as its main characteristics, both in English and in French. We will learn that it measures the speed and direction of the wind, all thanks to ultrasound and that you will receive notifications in real time. You will of course be reminded that you must first have the smart weather station. On the left, in 6 different languages, we will have the technical characteristics, which we will come back to a little later.

Let’s start by talking about the so-called installation software. To get started, as always, take a look at the notice, here, at the notices. These are all made with diagrams so that visually everything is as understandable as possible. Whether it is the installation of the anemometer or the rain gauge, they are similar in all respects.
Once the batteries are working, you will need to put your devices close to the indoor station. Then go to the app and add the device in question. To do so, press said station and wait for it to flash blue or white. Once connected, you will be able to rename your rain gauge and anemometer.
It was a breeze to pair our devices.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the installation. hardware, which asked us to be a little crafty at first. Indeed, I had not received mounting brackets at the same time as the two devices and they need to be fixed correctly so as not to fall or fly away. So if I had to tinker the first week, I then received support.
The latter arrives in a branded box. We will find at the front a visual of the product, a reminder of the brand and the name of the product. On the left, there will be two diagrams to indicate the two possible fixings of the support, on a wall thanks to the screws or on a post. On the right now, two other diagrams showing the possibilities offered by the support because, let’s remember, it is a support for the anemometer and the rain gauge. On the back now we will have the contents of the box in 8 languages.
- 1 support
- 1 pole mount
- 2 clamps
- 3 vis
- 3 pegs
Having only one support, I undertook to install only the anemometer, while waiting to invest in a second for the rain gauge. For a more visual rendering, I asked my colleague CornerJack, who had the opportunity to test these products in the past to send me a photo of the two devices on their respective supports, so that you can better appreciate the result.
Here, as at home, he opted for fixings via clamps. Thus, no need to drill holes. Convenient, for example, if you are renting or if you simply do not want to drill into your walls.
At the level of the installation of the supports, you will need to bring a screwdriver to loosen the clamps, then to tighten them once everything is fixed. Once in place, so well fixed, nothing moves, even in heavy weather.
Testing and application
Now let’s get to the test itself. Remember, we had two tabs on the app so far: outdoor air and weather and indoor air info. Now two new tabs are naturally appearing for real-time wind and rain.
If there is rarely rain in my Var region, I was lucky enough to be able to measure some precipitation during my test. Thus, thanks to the curves, I have access to everything that may have fallen. Even if they are unfortunately too rare, it is pleasant for me who loves everything that attracts the weather to follow the evolution of the rain, but also of the wind which is not rare!
You will also receive real-time notifications in the event of rain or strong gusts, for example.
Now let’s talk about connected assistants. As a reminder, the Skill Netatmo Weather is available on all devices with Alexa as a connected assistant guide. On the compatibility side, the weather station is also compatible with Apple Homekit but beware! For all Google Assistant users, we will still have to wait! The brand announced that this compatibility was in the pipeline but… no date yet. A wait that is starting to be very long for all the regulars of “OK Google”. This is all the more surprising since many of the brand’s other products are compatible. Case to follow.
If you like to know everything about the weather like me, you will find it hard not to like the complete suite offered by Netatmo. Here with its rain gauge and its anemometer, it will no longer have any secrets for you and you will know everything about your home. However, as we have seen, there is one downside for us: the lack of support for these two devices. The anemometer and the rain gauge are not within reach of all budgets, and it is 50 € (on promotion) or 60 € (in normal times) additional that will have to be added if you ever don’t go through the brand’s website.
Indeed, the latter provides to offer support for any purchase of either. It will automatically be added to your basket when purchasing one or the other. Of course if you acquire both, these are two supports that will be sent to you. Be careful to pay attention to this detail, and to go directly through Netatmo to benefit from it. It would have been wiser to make packagings all in one. For the rest, we have here two products with beautiful finishes, easy to install and to use through its very complete application.
As a reminder, the anemometer is currently displayed at the price of 99,99 € while the rain gauge is at 65,94 €. We also regret the non-compatibility with Google Assistant, yet strongly requested by the community.
