Samsung has already sent heavy since the beginning of the year with the launch of the new
Galaxy S22 and you
Galaxy S21 FE. But the Korean giant still has it under control for the rest of the year with the very likely presentation of new versions of its Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 folding smartphones. As a reminder, these two models differ in their format, the first folding horizontally, like a flip phone, the second folding vertically, like a book.
We are interested here in the rumors surrounding the Galaxy Z Flip 4 concerning its price, its characteristics, its possible launch date…
Galaxy Z Flip 4 release date: possibly August or September
It is too early to have reliable information regarding the release date of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. But, based on the history of the folding smartphone, we can deduce some clues. The launches of
Galaxy Z Flip don’t appear to follow a specific pattern, as the original was announced in February 2020 and the
Galaxy Z Flip 3 was released in August 2021. Samsung paired this model with the Galaxy Z Fold, which is why the Z Flip jumped from version 1 to 3 in order to match the naming of the Z Fold.
The 2019 Galaxy Fold and 2020 Z Fold 2 were released in September, while the Z Fold 3 debuted in August 2021. If Samsung plans to release these phones in pairs again, we can probably expect to see the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in August or September alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Price: Galaxy Z Flip 4 could be cheaper
We haven’t yet heard about the possible price of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but a few rumors seem to us to deserve a spotlight. According to the Korean source yeux1122, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will cost less than the Z Fold 3. Speculation that lines up with the price history of the Z line. Indeed, the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has dropped compared to that of the Fold 2. The price of Galaxy Z Flip 3 has also been reduced compared to Galaxy Z Flip. Based on this trend, it’s entirely possible that Samsung will lower the price of the Z Flip 4.
Design: a larger front screen and an extendable screen
Rumors about the screen of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 suggest that Samsung is opting for minimal tweaks over big upgrades. According to the Korean site
The Elec, the Z Flip 4 will retain the 6.7-inch folding internal screen of the Z Flip 3, but the external screen will be increased from 1.83 to 1.9 inches. A slightly larger front screen could make reading notifications and handling widgets a bit easier.
However, according to a
patent Filed by Samsung with the World Intellectual Property Office, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 could have both a folding and extendable screen that can be pulled out to double the display area.
Camera: rotating lenses?
Samsung hasn’t updated the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s camera setup, but the upcoming Z Flip 4 might bring some improvements. If rumors are to be believed, it could usher in a rotating camera and a more capable under-screen camera.
The South Korean company has filed another patent application with the World Intellectual Property Office for a flip phone with a rotating dual-lens camera. It’s built into the hinge of the foldable display so it can be used when the phone is closed, open, or at different angles in between.
The idea is interesting, but it could result in a significant increase in the size of the hinge, which would make the smartphone larger and bulkier. Launched in 2019, the Galaxy A80 incorporated similar equipment.
Other rumors from yeux1122, suggest that Samsung has been testing versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with an improved under-display camera that can also be used on the front display. But the manufacturer would also have tested versions with a punched screen.
